The Four Barbershop Parts

Barbershop is sung in 4 part harmony a capella (without accompanyment). Barbershop harmony has a different balance of voices than traditional Harmony.

So what are the four Barbershop voice parts?

Tenor:  The highest, lightest voices that give the sweetness to the harmony.

Lead:  The melody line. Leads do not sing as high as tenors but can still reach some of those top notes.

Bass:  Low voices that provide the foundation for the harmony.

Baritone:  Vocal range between lead and bass. Baritones provide the fill-in notes that round off the harmony.
